What’s a girl to do when her best friend is making a mistake? Stop him, of course.
College sophomore Emily Dilbert has been best friends with Dylan Chamberlain since they were kids. All she wants is for him to be happy and she knows him better than anyone. That’s why when she finds an engagement ring in his backpack she has to stop him from marrying the wrong girl.
Dylan Chamberlain has been in love with his brother’s girlfriend, Emily, since the second grade. When his brother asks for help planning a surprise proposal, Dylan knows it’s time to bury his feelings and finally let Emily go. Too bad his heart refuses to cooperate.
All of Emily’s attempts to lure Dylan away from his girlfriend fail, forcing her to turn up the heat on their friendship. Will Dylan reveal his long-buried secret and tell Emily how he feels? Or will Emily be forced to use any means necessary to show him the error of his ways?
Christy Hayes lives outside Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, two children, and two dogs. She has a journalism degree from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!). She’s a member of the Romance Writers of America, the Women’s Fiction chapter of Romance Writers of America, and the Contemporary Romance Writers chapter of Romance Writers of America. Christy has been writing seriously since 2004 and made the decision to indie publish in 2011. When not working on her next novel, Christy can be found walking her dogs through her neighborhood or at one of her kids sporting events.
The lift of his brow should have been a warning, but she was too stubborn to recognize the gleam in his eye. Dylan grabbed her ankles, yanking her legs halfway off the bed. Unfortunately, he also drew her dress up to skim the top of her thighs. When he bolted upright, she used his distraction to scoot farther up the bed.
“Damn it, Em. Get off!”
“You’re going to have to make me.”
He took the challenge as the dare she’d intended. A laugh escaped her mouth as he put one knee and then the other on the bed, crawling alongside her and resting his hands over her wrists.
“You asked for this,” he said
“I’m stronger than you think.”
“Oh, yeah? I guess we’ll see.”
He yanked her arms up over her head and maneuvered his knee between her legs, immobilizing half of her body. He used his other hand to tickle her belly as she squirmed beneath him. Emily used her free leg in retaliation to kick at his hip. He barely budged.
“Are you ready to concede defeat?” he asked, his big white teeth glistening. That brow lifted again as his grip on her wrists tightened.
She held her knee only an inch or so from his crotch. It was hard to tell how far since his shorts were so baggy. “I could take you down with one blow.”
He glanced down, sensed the danger to his boys, and placed his knee over both of her legs, straddling her midsection and flattening his body over hers, cutting off her attack. “I don’t think so.”
The laughter died from her lips as recognition dawned. He was on top of her in the most intimate of ways. He was no longer her childhood friend, her boyfriend’s brother, or her most loyal confidant. He was Dylan. Only Dylan. And she wanted him. With one lift of her hips, one brush of her lips, everything she knew about life—her life—would shift.
