Recommended warning before reading, have tissues or long sleeves because this story will break you .

This book reads as a diary, I feel like I have snooped into the life of Jane and its not pretty…..by far. This story is based on Jane’s life, if you can call it her life. Having married her high school sweet heart, Dave, and having a beautiful baby girl, Jane thinks her life is perfect….until decisions are taken away from her. Dave is a controlling, vindictive and spiteful man who controls every aspect of Jane’s life, right down to how many miles Jane can drive a day!

Now its easy for me to criticise Jane for staying with this monster. I have never been in an abusive relationship, physical or emotional, but I know deep down that one hit would be enough to make me walk! But that’s from me, on the outside looking in. I guess when fear rules you its easier to tow the line for what I guess Jane sees as an ‘easy life’.

Hats off to Caroline, this book had me in more tears more than any other book has……EVER, and I’m the cryer of the club! It brought out emotions in me that I didn’t think a book could, I cried, scratch that, I sobbed and I mean gut wrenching sobs. I felt anger towards Jane for staying with this so called ‘Man’ and for making excuse after excuse for him. I also felt anger towards her friends for not spotting the signs that their friend was suffering. I mean how many times can you say you walked into a door before the alarm bells start ringing? Toby was the only one who seemed to see what was happening to his dear Janey and willing to push his friendship with her to get her the help she needed, even if Jane couldn’t see it for herself. But the one I felt to most anger towards was Dave’s dad (insert words I can NOT type without getting into trouble) you sir are the scum of the earth!!

But its not all doom and gloom for Jane, every cloud and that. By the end of the story the tears were still flowing but for totally different reasons. A worth while read for anyone who likes ‘true life’ stories. I can’t wait to start Caroline’s next book, Taking a Risk.

Chapter One

Jay Marshall pressed his lips together as he held the phone. His hands curled into a ball then straightened. He stared out his bay windows overlooking the ocean. Another beautiful day on the beaches of South Florida, not that he cared. Sunshine never filled him with joy. The humidity outside suffocated the spirit, but somehow, with this deal, he’d break free.

“Yes, you’ll see I mean business, Mr. Danvers. My business plans are long term.”

Danvers sucked in his breath, as if he were doubting the sincerity of Jay’s words, then told Jay. “And I’ll meet your girlfriend. It’s always telling with people from Miami. Flashy women and cars do not make good investments on my end.”

Jay gritted his teeth and tugged at his free ear, but kept the phone on the other. Miami advertised plastic women on the highway as a special brand. Flashy came with the area code. Instead he nodded his head and told the potential investor, “I understand. See you next week.”

He hung up the phone and stared out the window. The brightness showed his reflection and his grim frown. Jay needed to win. His eyes squished together. He¹d pay the price for success. He had no other choice.

Jay’s mind raced to his technical girlfriend. Eva was the epitome of flashy, beautiful, and fake. She’d been a friend since high school, and two months ago, they¹d ended up dating. On paper the award winning dramatic actress, his money, and their history should be a match. Yet he couldn’t imagine his entire life videotaped.

If he walked away from her, there would be no regrets. His investors hoped he had a nice, sweet woman on the side. His cousin and her friend, Penelope, flashed in his head before he dropped the thought.
He pushed his hand on the glass window before he stepped back into the shadows of his office.

Darkness didn¹t suit him either. Nothing stirred inside him anymore, though he craved something. Anything other than boredom from the sticky heat of his life.

He shook his head and poked his head out of his office. His secretary sat there typing. “Call Eva. Set up an appointment for us to talk today.”

With the click of the door knob he rolled up his sleeves. He needed the deal to put his goals in line with his investment portfolio.

His eyes narrowed in on the first words, long term growth.

Long term read to his eyes like a rescue rope. He blinked. Life should be lived with long term goals to reach. Freedom meant change.

Today, he’d break up with Eva. In his heart, he’d always hoped for a woman that tugged at his heart strings. But hopes didn’t earn freedom. He’d prove to himself, and the others, John Jay Marshall came out of the game of life on top.

book blurb

To rescue her was to rescue his own soul.

On a cold Parisian night, Vicomte Aleksender de Lefèvre forges an everlasting bond with a broken girl during her darkest hour, rescuing her from a life of abuse and misery. Tormented by his own demons, he finds his first bit of solace in sheltering little Sofia Rose.

But when Aleksender is drawn away by the Franco-Prussian war, the seasons pass. And in that long year, Sofia matures into a stunning young woman—a dancer with an understanding of devotion and redemption far surpassing her age.

Alongside his closest friend, Aleksender returns home to find that “home” is gone—replaced by revolution, bloodshed, betrayal—and a love always out of reach. Scarred inside and out, he’s thrust into a world of sensuality and violence—a world in which all his hours have now grown dark, and where only Sofia might bring an end to the winter in his heart.

Inspired by the 1871 Paris Commune, The Frost of Springtime is a poignant tale of revolution, redemption, and the healing power of love.

The heat of their bodies mingled as one. With each breath, Aleksender drank in the sweet essence of his beloved ward. His mind swam with unorthodox visions and desires. He inclined his head, lost to the power of her nearness, entranced by everything that was Sofia Rose.

“Alek, my Alek …”

Each word infused Aleksender with a delicious and undeniable warmth. Intoxicated by roses and wintertime, he found it difficult to speak, difficult to think. Breathless, he swallowed and met the haunting depths of her eyes.

“Please,” she dreamily murmured, “I want you to kiss me again…”

Forbidden Forever / Forbidden No More

Forbidden Forever and Forbidden No More by Christy Dilg

review by crystal

Today is release day for Forbidden No More, the second book by Christy Dilg about Dr. Chance Turner and Laney Collins…so from Orchard Book Club – Happy Release Day!

Now, I’m going to give you my review for both books since I read them back to back.  I met Christy Dilg in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the Tennessee Valley Author Event back in July.  I did my research before I went and had a list of authors that I wanted to meet and books I wanted to leave with.  Christy was at the top of my list.  Her book Forbidden Forever sounded like something that I would really enjoy.  I stopped by her table to meet her, and her being an awesome author aside, she’s an amazingly sweet person!  I truly enjoyed getting to meet with her that very hot and humid Saturday.

Skipping ahead, I answered a request she posted on Facebook asking for people interested in beta-reading her second book Forbidden No More.  I jumped all over it.  Before I started the second book, I wanted to read Forbidden Forever so I knew what was going on.  I dug right in and was not disappointed.  The book follows Laney Collins, a woman who is truly beautiful inside and out, as her marriage falls apart.  Laney takes a job working for Dr. Chance Turner and a relationship blossoms between the two of them.  This was not some torrid affair between the two of them, but, rather, a very beautiful relationship that evolved from two bad situations.  Chance sees in Laney what she cannot see in herself due to the mental (and subsequent physical) abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.  Anyone who enjoys books about a story deeper than just the physical would enjoy Forbidden Forever because it is very heartfelt and emotional.  It has steamy parts too, but the underlying story is one of courage, strength, and the power of love.

After finishing Forbidden Forever, I dove right into Forbidden No More.  I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted so much to see what was going to happen with the characters.  That’s the way they are written, they resonate with you and you carry them with you as you read the books.  They aren’t forgettable as I find a lot of characters are recently.  I really wanted Chance and Laney to have a happy ever after because they both deserved it.  The second book brings about surprises for the entire family, including Laney’s children with her ex-husband.  Christy really wrote a beautiful story about a blended family and how having a good step-parent can help to shape a child’s life.  Again, this book definitely had the more adult parts to satiate the erotica loving reader, but I still feel like the books carried a much deeper meaning…at least they did to me.

I am so thankful that Christy let me beta-read Forbidden No More for her.  I enjoyed the experience and both books are definitely worth reading.  I highly recommend them!

PhotoGrid_1405713536656-1

They had barely made it inside and closed and locked the door behind them when Sean took Prim’s face in his hands and kissed her. She rested her palms on his chest then slid her hands down and undid his pants. He was quickly naked in the center of the room, although she remained fully clothed.

“Wait,” she declared. “Don’t go anywhere.”

Sean chuckled and asked her where she thought he was going to go. He watched her walk back towards the master bedroom, listened as she moved around in the room, and savored the sight of her walking back to him. He noted she wasn’t wearing her shoes anymore and deduced that she was probably not wearing anything else except the gown.

As she slipped her arms around his neck, Prim urged him to make love to her. When he pointed out it would ruin her dress, she pointed out that her dress could be cleaned. When he asked her what would happen if they tore it, she answered that it could be stitched.

“What if I tear it off you and it can’t be repaired?”

She kissed him and murmured, “I love this dress, and I’m glad you love it, too. But it’s a dress. If it gets destroyed because of what we do while I’m wearing it, then I won’t regret it.”
